Grocery and Liquor Stores

We are staying in a private house and wonder if anyone has any advise as to where we should buy food and alcohol on IM. Also, what do meals run on average to eat out? Thanks

There is a main grocery store in the downtown area, near the town square as well as some mini mart type stores around the island. Your best bet for booze is the Navy store - which is open to the public - good deals there. We found meals to be inexpensive overall, though there are some more upscale establishments that are pricier. There was a recent post here on the forum concerning a daily budget - you might read that as well as visit www.islamujeres.info for more details. Have a great trip! :)

The Navy Store that Coalminer refers to has been torn down during the massive remodeling of the naval base on Isla. Eventually it will be replaced by a larger facility -- but currently the only shopping options for liquor on the island are the Super Express, Mirtita's grocery, Covi, and a few mom-and-pop liquor stores. If you will be on the island for a while, and you have special preferences, you might want to consider stopping in Cancun on your way to the island to shop at Europea. It is a large wine and spirits store across the street from Walmart in Cancun. Best selection in the Cancun area.

Thanks for all the assistance. Do the Mom and Pops shops have the basics like Corona, Rum and Wine?

All corner stores have solo beer. not much of a wine selecion on the Island. There are some establishments where you can purchase roasted chicken to take home. comes with rice or spagetti for about $8.00. We realy liked baseball field tacos, dinner cost us $11.00 for two people. it opens around 8:00pm till around 4:00am. its under the bleachers at the baseball park in the middle of the Island. We also found the lunch counters at the market were good for lunch ( they close around 5:00pm) most items are about $4.00 or $5.00 dollars. Also liked Picaus by the ferry dock for dinner.
