Going to be in Playa Del Carmen in May and would really like to try parasailing. Anyone know if this is available in Playa? Any info appreciated!

We're also interested in this - anyone know the cost and the "thow-up" factor (for those of you afraid of heights). My husband is very into this - cost for one couple for an hour?

Any past experiences/reviews most appreciated!~

The base price is 65 usd, and they will convert to pesos. The yellow parasail with the happy face, they operate between the ferry dock and muelle (between the RPDC & Grand Porto Real) has a rep that walks the beach looking for riders. You should get closer to 50 usd pp, tandem and I heard him go for 40 usd for a group of 12 ladies. He walks the beach with a clipboard. They bring the waverunners, for safety, near the Grand Porto Real, southside of the resort.

There were 4 pairasail boats working different sections of the beach. You should have no problemo. They start about 10:00 AM and run people out by waverunner all day long.

It's a lot of fun.

The paragliders were out today. Now they go real high. I swear they are in the flight path for airplanes flying out of PDC.

The worse part of the trip is the jet-ski ride out to the boat. IF the ocean is wavy then your ride is a little bumpy. Once you are in the harness and up in the air there's really very little motion. I was surprised at how smooth and quiet it is. It just feels like your floating up there. Very cool!!!

I think actual time in the air is more like 8-10 minutes.

I agree with LFruit. I didn't enjoy the jetski but my hubby did. My son and I loved the tandem parasailing and my hubby chose not to go because of the height issue. They also take photos so negotiate for that too. We got 4-5 large photos for $20. The tandem is the way to go so you can share the experience together. Take up an underwater or cheapo camera and take photos of each other and the coastline. I was surprised how well the photos came out.

MN is correct - 10 minutes is average.

we just went last week - in front of the Sandos...paid $55/person (2 up at a time); my older daughter is there now and she said they tried to charge her $60/person, and she ended up paying $50/person.
