Is there a Walmart in Nuevo Vallerta or do you need to go past the airport and into Puerto Vallerta?

Thanks for your first post on the TripAdvisor! There is a WalMart on the main highway, #200, in the town of Mezcales, which is right next to Nuevo Vallarta. There are also Mega and Chedraui stores on the highway. Both are very similar to WalMart and one of them may actually be closer to your resort or condo in NV.

4. Re: Walmart

I think it would be best to take a taxi to the Mega from the Riu Vallarta.

It's a 2.5 km walk from the Riu Vallarta to the Mega. Lots of people walk it for the exercise, and for a break from the resort. It's perfectly safe to walk in this area, and there is a traffic light at the Mega to help you cross the highway.

In the months of June through October you'd want to get an early start to avoid doing the walk in the high heat and humidity. It would be wise to take a taxi back, particularly if you're loaded down with groceries - I have on many occasions given a lift to people walking back to the Flamingos area from the Mega, to this point nobody has refused the offer! There are always taxis around at the Mega and they work off established flat rates based on your destination, so you won't need to haggle (unless it's something you like to do).
