Driving a Rental Car in Banff - Things I Should Know?

Hello,

I am traveling solo to Banff, Yoho and Jasper this weekend and will be exploring these parks for 10 days. I am flying in to Calgary and have a rental car booked.

I plan to decline the rental agency's insurance and instead use the one that my credit card provides as well as buying additional insurance from my home province, which should cover me for a variety of things.

Is there anything that I should know or be cautious about when driving a rental car in Banff and the other parks that I mentioned? Any specific questions that I should ask the rental agency when I pick up the car?

This will be first time renting a car in Canada.

Any advice would be appreciated!

it is a car.......if you already drive one in Canada it is all the same.

Just spend time before you start driving to learn about where the controls are located.

If you've rented vehicles in other places, then you should know the drill ... check for scratches, damages, cracks in windshield, etc., and note them on the agreement, have it signed before you drive away. And/or take photos with your phone.

Ensure the vehicle is allowed to be driven into BC (it should be, but just in case), and that any unlimited kms are also allowed in BC.

Gas is about 95c/ litre in Calgary right now (often more expensive in the mountain communities) There are 2 gas stations within a couple of kms of YYC - if they want the car full on return, and offer to do it for you - make sure you aren't being charged significantly more than the actual price.

I love "the pig"

It changes every day...but I haven't seen it over a dollar since I drove through BC earlier this month.
