Lake Louise/Banff

Hi,

I am a 19 year old male travelling from Australia to Lake Louise, Banff at the beginning of January 2012 for just under 2 months. Just wondering if anyone knew about the cheapest accomodation located close enough to Lake Louise ski fields and anywhere recommended to go in Banff for a student looking for fun!

Practically, advice for a young person travelling to Lake Louise, Banff.

Thanks

Welcome to TripAdvisor, Michael!

The Lake Louise ski area is kind of in the middle of nowhere; accommodations in the village of Lake Louise are quite limited; the Lake Louise HI hostel is the best budget option.

However, you may find that you prefer to stay in the Banff townsite, which has much more accommodation in all price ranges, as well as more restaurants and other things to do. There are two ski areas close to the town of Banff - Sunshine Village, which is roughly the same size as Lake Louise and is 20 minutes away ( www.skibanff.com), and Norquay, which is 5 minutes away but much smaller ( www.banffnorquay.com ). A shuttle bus will take you from Banff to any of the ski areas, including Louise.

Hi Michael, if you are looking to treat yourself to a night or two in a nicer hotel in Banff , check out this link to a very good deal at the Rimrock hotel ->

travelzoo.com/ca/…

Please keep in mind that a 5% national GST tax as well as a 4% Alberta tourism levy would be in addition to the posted price.

- enjoy !

The only cheaper accommodation in Lake Louise is the hostel and it isn't very cheap. It will run you just over $30 for a dorm bed there. Most students/youth that want to be skiing in Lake Louise for a significant part of the winter get a job either at the ski hill itself or elsewhere in Lake Louise. That way they have a bit of income coming in and you are provided accommodation by the employer.

You might be able to find a bit cheaper rates at one of the hostels in Banff. They won't be much cheaper, but as stated you will have more options for getting around and doing things.

Cheers
