One Day in Banff in July

The family and I (hubby, 16yr old son and 4yr old daughter) are visiting relatives in Calgary the second week of July and will be doing our best to spend a whole day in Banff. Suggestions? We love the outdoors but want to make sure the teen isn't bored and the little one isn't overwhelmed. Help!

To start your thinking, here's a link to a one-day itinerary to Banff from Calgary (you'll need to scroll down a bit on the page):

If you have only a single day in Banff one of the top highlights is the Banff Gondola which takes you to the top of Sulphur Mountain. An alternate is to go to Mt. Norquay Ski Area and take a ride up the chairlift they will have in operation for summer siteseeing. At the top of the chairlift there is a teahouse where you could enjoy some snacks and drinks with an incredible view. It is a chairlift, so you will be exposed to the weather but your teenager may find that a bit more thrilling than the enclosed gondola ride.

You may also enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Minnewanka which is close to Banff town.

If you want to get more into nature I would recommend driving on the Bow Valley Parkway, also know as Highway 1A, to Johnston Canyon. The hike into the canyon is easy, about 3km one way with very little elevation gain. With several waterfalls it is a nice trail to explore.
