Nice, centrally located hotel in Victoria?

Hello from Stockholm, Sweden. My wife and I will be in Victoria for 1 night only in the beginning of March 2012 (coming from Vancouver on a Sunday, and going furtheron on Monday afternoon by the Clipper ferry to Seattle. It is too short time in Victoria, I know! (But then we will have to come back :-)

I would prefere a nice, authentic hotel with an good atmosphere much more than a large and dull "conference" hotel. Preferably in downtown (centrally in) Victoria (maybe close to the harbour where the Clipper ferry is departing from...?).

Please, can you kindly give me any advice? Thanks in advance.

Are these the types of places you're looking for?

http://www.helmsinn.com/

http://www.admiralinnhotel.com/

http://www.victoriabestwestern.com/

or

http://www.parksidevictoria.com

All centrally located, within walking distance of the Clipper, well run, nice properties.

You might try http://www.magnoliahotel.com/ which has a bit more character than most.

Or http://oswegovictoria.com/site/

or, if money isn't a problem, one of our high-end B&Bs - all superb. Check the ratings.

http://www.abigailshotel.com/

http://www.beaconsfieldinn.com/

http://www.humboldthouse.com/

Those too are within walking distance.

Hi DagFH ~

I will go out on a limb here to suggest Abigail's, but it's about 5 minutes by cab from the waterfront of the Inner Harbour, quite close really. I base this on your statement <<I would prefere a nice, authentic hotel with an good atmosphere.>>

On this map, A is Abigail's, B is the Pacific Coach Lines bus depot (I seem to remember you will be taking the PCL to Victoria?) and C is the ferry ramp for the Victoria Clipper.

Maybe it would make up for the lack of time you have in Victoria this visit. :-)

I am surprise no one mentioned the Fairmont Empress. There might be better hotels in town but the iconic Empress certainly fits "authentic". See the photos at www.fairmont.com/Empress

Hi again DagFH. Well you can see there are lots of hotel options available to you. If you provide us with more information (rate range, style of hotel ect) the volunteers here can probably narrow it down a bit more for you!

Every time I buy Wasa crispbread, I think of the museum at Djurgården.

The Royal Scot all suites hotel is walking from the clipper and is very nice.

The other local though a little farther though walkable is the Queen Victoria hotel. Both are not huge mega hotel's with some character.
