Do I need a car in Victoria?

We are planning to go to victoria around memorial day weekend. It will be 2 people and a toddler. We plan to cover the standard destinations such as the stanley park, BC museum inner harbor etc. (any recommendations welcome.)

So my question is do we need a car to cover the most popular points in victoria? We are coming from seattle so we can either drive from there or ride on victoria clipper. I am trying to decide between these two options. Any suggestions?

If your plan is to travel around downtown Victoria, Inner Harbour, Beacon Hill Park, Cook Street Village and you are comfortable on foot and using transit, then I would recommend you take the Clipper from Seattle.

If you did decide you wanted to go out to Sidney, Buchart Gardens or the Saanich Peninsula you could hire a car for the day (assuming you bring a car seat, your stroller has a legal car seat as part of it or you are able to hire one from the car rental company).

Victoria is the perfect place to come without a car, especially from Seattle on the Clipper as it is direct and quick and features beautiful scenery all the way; whereas the drive is not all that exciting regardless of which route you take.

Looks like you are from Seattle, so will be prepared for a wide variety of weather, from cool and wet, to long hot sunny days.

To see the many options for getting to Butchart Gardens, click on "How do I get to Butchart Gardens?" at upper right. In addition to the options listed, there is Classic Car Tours, on TA at tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g154945-d2… . They also have an unimpressive website at http://www.classiccartours.com .

Don't hesitate to post more questions as your planning progresses :-)

Assuming you are staying at an Inner Harbour - or close to it - hotel I would not bring a car. If you do you will pay upwards of 20.00 per/day to park it.

It's not necessary to use a car. The Inner Harbour is a pleasant to walk and the transit system is easy to use to get to points beyond. I have to bring my car but the whole time I am in the Inner Harbour poking around my car remains parked in the hotel underground for the duration of the stay.
