Niagra on the lake accomodations

Hi ... My husband and I would like to come for the second week in September. I would like to fly in to Buffalo and rent a car. I am not sure where to stay... He has never seen the falls and would like to do so as well. Shall I plan on two hotels or one? One in the falls and one on the lake? We would like something nice and above average. We know nothing about the area so any recommendations ....ie restaurants, must do etc

Thank you

Is the focus of your visit a quiet relaxing stay in the heritage village of Niagara-on-the-Lake, which is home to the Shaw Festival theatres, dozens of wineries and fine dining or to see and do the Falls and attractions in Niagara Falls?

Most of the accommodations in NOTL are on the high end, as are hotels in Niagara Falls that offer views of the Falls.

Switching hotels and towns is a time waster imo. Pick one and stick with it. The two communities are only a 25 minute drive apart.

We prefer NOTL - as noted above, it is quieter and relaxing... a more adult destination. Niagara Falls is frenzied and loud.

Our purpose is to have a nice 3-5 day trip relaxing and to visit some great wineries and the falls. How may nights should I stay? and are the B&B's better or the same.... I usually prefer a hotel. Any suggestions dinner and or hotel?

Hi Jennifer;

In Niagara Falls, for good food and GREAT views, I would suggest The Keg Steakhouse on the 9th floor of the Embassy Suites Hotel, overlooking the Falls.

I would stay 2 nights NOTL and 2 nights the falls. We go every single autumn and have stayed at separate places before. Last year we did 2 nights NOTL and one night the falls. It's just easier if you want to go out to eat and have drinks near the falls, you won't have to drive back to NOTL. Works for us and we enjoy both places, but we especially love NOTL. We stay in B&Bs there.

ps. for the falls I recommend staying at Sterling Inn and Spa or the Fallsview Casino (all rooms have views) or Marriott Fallsview. Only restaurant I'd recommend there is Weinkeller.

NOTL, our fav B&B is Bran Cliff Inn (not really a B&B anymore...but they do provide a continental breakfast), or Two Bees B&B. We've also stayed at the Harbour House Hotel and recommend it. Tons of great restaurants and wineries. Have enjoyed the restaurant at Two Sisters often.
