Calypso Water Park

Anyone have any insight into the Calypso Water Park which opened at the end of March 2010 and will have its season start June 2010? The rates seem pretty standard for an waterpark but wonder if the entire park will be operational in its first season. Anyone?

Hi BCalm,

Welcome to the OTTAWA TRAVEL FORUM.

The only piece of info I have seen of late has been this article in the *Ottawa Citizen* (April 6, 2010) entitled "Limoges Waterpark Nearly Ready for Summertime Fun" = www.ottawacitizen.com/technology/Limoges+waterpark+nearly+ready+summertime/2766540/story.html OR tinyurl.com/OttawaCitizen-CalypsoWaterpark

Looks like a great concept for the National Capital Area... hopefully our "notorious" weather will cooperate!

Cheers!

It opens on June 7th and I got a sneak preview in the fall. The place is amazing and the slides are for adrenaline seekers. This place puts other water parks to shame.

I'm looking forward to going to the waterpark with my 6 yr. old, we are driving up from Niagara. I just wish they would have put height requirements on thier website so I would know if my son can go on most waterslides or not:S I would hate to drive the 7 hrs. to only find out he can only go to the pirate lagoon.

Hi Barjil,

Welcome to the OTTAWA TRAVEL FORUM.

Well considering that they've only been open a couple of days now... chance are "unlikely" that a TA Member has actually been there as of yet.

Seeing as you know your son's height... and you have the contact info for Calypso... probably worth sending an email or making a phone call.

And you might pass along your concern... they are just new at all this... so probably haven't thought everything thru as to their website etc... so hearing from you directly and knowing you are coming from so far away... I'm sure they'll be happy to know that they can draw in customers from afar.

Cheers!

PS... If you do visit, it would be great if you could share a TripReport with us as to your Ottawa Adventure and especially any info about the Water Park.

Hello, I have been twice to the Waterpark in Limoge "Calypso". It has pretty much something for everyone. We have a 14 year old and a 4 year old. They loved it. We enjoyed really enjoyed the waterslides and the jungle river. You can also bring your own food and drinks (No alchool, or glass bottles) wich can save you alot of money. There are a few things they would need to improve on like: 1) They would need to put parasols or big embrellas in the main entrance for people waiting to buy their tickets, no shade areas whatsoever. 2) They have great big signs that say $5.00 cash only for parking just to let you know, but no express entrances for those who have season passes. 3) Also the waiters/waitresses at the main restaurant never took our order ater beeing escorted to our table. We got mad and just left and went to the fast food cantine. But all in all the slides and the pools were clean and well supervised.

Waited an hour and half in the blazing sun in line and never got in today.. they are VERY disorganized and couldn’t figure out ticketing system. Line up was to the parking lot with many people very frustrated and turning around. Drive the extra 30 minutes go to Oka or even better, Saint Sauveur. Avoid this place like the plague!!!

Hi Stephane031974 & BIGtraveller66;

More people read the reviews area than the forums when looking-up information on various attractions. Please take a moment and write a review of the water park, which you can find here on TA;

TO BIGTRAVELLER66,

Interestingly the REVIEW Page for Calypso Water Park has a recent entry (June 16, 2010) from someone who was there and said there was the "potential" for just the situation you described on a hot day (and today certainly was a hot day).

The Reviewer also had some tips on how one might circumvent the Ticket Line-Up Problem... and some other great ideas on how to get the most out of a visit to the Park.

As I say this is listed as a NEW REVIEW... so not sure if the info would have been available to you prior to your visit... but it does fill that TA slogan "Know the Truth... then Go"

Cheers!

PS... Always good to see another Ottawa local posting in the TRAVEL FORUM (the more the merrier), I hope you stick around.

I was there yesterday! 9yrs old can go almost everywhere provided that they put on a lifejacket provided by the waterpark.

Slides are pretty cool and I loved the rafting one and the jungle river.

They need to get things rolling a bit better. The lunch line took us 1:10 minutes (we had lunch tickets from the school), the line ups for the biggest lines were about 45 minutes (and no staff was asking people to get together in the 6 seaters if there was only 3 or 4 friends together), the ice cream line was slow, and the candy store was out of everything by 4 PM (I mean, no natchos, no chips, no pretzel and no slushies)... and they didn't tell you until you have waited the 35 minutes to get to the counter. Once there, 4 girls were upfront waiting or cleaning the counter, while one was at the back running around like crazy cooking the beaver tails.

The bathrooms were filthy by 5 PM.

Another thing : bring your cell phone and lock it up (for an initial 10 $, 5 $ back when you bring back the key). I needed to call home and there are no phones around at all. I looked, then asked the information, which told me to go to the boutique, which told me to go to information.

One last thing, which bothered me the most. This is a water park. Slide can be pretty dangerous. LIfegards had this blazé look on their faces. When we asked them what to grab onto; or how to position ourselves, they just gave us a blank stare in return. I was there on a school trip with 4 well behaved 12 yrs old.

The only time when someone was nice? When we exited. The guy there said Have a good evening and came back again.

I will go back next week to see if things have improved. If you go for the slides, you'll have a blast, but pack a lunch so you don't have to waist anytime in line.
