thanksgiving weekend getaway

we're looking for a weekend away at thanksgiving and would like a resort, possibly with golf course. One that won't break the bank, though.

In the past, we've had good luck with talisman in Kimberly, but it has changed hands, and it looks like they are nickle and diming. Someone recommended the Irwin inn, but then I read TA reviews...... not goood!

Any ideas?

Thanks, everyone

Dunno what breaks your bank, so...

I hear from a golfing buddy that Taboo up in Muskoka is fantastic. He goes every summer with his family.

Thanksgiving is going to be an expensive weekend, regardless; it's considered one of the high rates during the year.

I found this list by googling golf resorts ontario, www.teeingitup.com/ontario/top-100.htm. Maybe this might help you.

Horseshoe Resort north of Barrie has 2 very nice golf courses and a lovely inn. Not sure how their prices will be Thanksgiving weekend, however.

I agree with flyinmom, it's a very expensive time to get away. I see you're from Caistorville. Ever think about going the other way? New York's Finger Lakes region is really nice at that time of year, and it's not a holiday down there. Check this out:

My kids and I have been going up to Bayview Wildwood in Orillia for 15 years. Walton House has very nice condos. The food is above average resort food. The staff are incredible. Golf 5 minutes away at Lake St. George, or probably 20 minutes away in Orillia at Hawk Ridge. Both are nice courses. Lake St. George has 27 holes.

The resort is simple, but comfy and a good retreat. I have been to Taboo and such. Totally not worth the money. Pretty lake, close to Toronto!

Hi Liniment,

LOL, if there is one thing I've learned this summer it is DON'T make any long range plans for long weekends. Summer 2009 will go down as one of the "worst long weekend weather" years of all time. We've been keeping track... not a one without significant rain. And Thanksgiving, doesn't look much better... According to the Weather Network longrange forecast currently they are projecting rain for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Not the best golf weather.

You might want to therefore play it by ear right up to the last minute... or plan around the one day that is the best of the lot.

A golf getaway might not be your best choice.

Sorry, I don't have better news (trust me no one is sadder than I... the weather has wrecked havoc with my annual trips to Cape Cod & the Islands, Quebec and now Niagara)

:-(

Cheers!

Funny that; we spent 10 years doing Bayview Wildwood! Loved it, it was great for us with the kids, but as to the golf connection. Hmmm. If golf is the primary driver of this vacation, the St. George course is not comparable to the Taboo course, as I understand it. If golf NOT the main reason, then also consider places like Fern Resort, also Orillia or Clevelands House.

Our whole family went to the Fern Resort just a few years ago to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and we had a terrific time - the weather that weekend was not that great, but the resort provided tons of fun activities for folks of all ages. Rooms were comfortable, food was good (and they provide selections that are popular with children),lots of activities etc. They have a Hallowe'en pumpkin carving contest that was lots of fun. Not sure about the golf though.

We used to love Fern, before we started hanging out at Bayview. Fern has the added attraction of being a stone's throw from Casino Rama, truly just down the road. Looks like the Oak Ridge Boys will be the entertainment on Oct. 10th.
