Centre Island bike rental

We would like to rent bikes on Centre Island tomorrow. I'd like to know how it works. Is it part of the Bixi chain or is it independent from it? Where is the rental location and how can we pay for it? (We live too far from biking there.)

There was just a thread on this in the last day or so. See this:

tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g155019-i55-k447528…

and go to the last page; a recent visitor describes his experience with bike rentals.

Bike rentals are available beside the Centre Island pier, see #16 on this map: toronto.ca/parks/…toronto_island_map.pdf

It is NOT part of the BIXI system. Remember that BIXI bikes are not bikes that you can "rent" in the normal sense - they're bikes that you can use for 30 minutes at a time only, although your subscription allows you to do this multiple times over a longer time period. BIXI currently operates only on the mainland within the downtown core.

I'm not sure what the rates or payment options are like at the Centre Island bike rental, but I think it's more expensive than most places. Could you not find a place on the mainland to rent bikes and take them over on the ferry? Or, if you have bikes but live too far from the ferry docks to ride, couldn't you take your bikes there by TTC? Bikes are allowed on the subway when it's not rush hour.

Wow! Thank you so much for the fast replies. I'm sure we and our young guest from Berlin will have fun on the island.

These guys "Wheel Excitement Inc" are located on Queen's Quay W, just west of the ferry docks:

Toronto Island has its own bicycle rental, ie. not part of Bixi. They have all kinds of bikes: singles for adults & kids, tandems, 2 Seater and 4 Seater Quadricycles - while Bixi bikes are only for adults.

Bixi bikes are great for around the city, but taking them to the island can be a hassle, esp. when the ferry boat gets crowded. Also, you may want to spend a few hours on the island chilling on the beach, eating at the cafes, walking through the amusements area, etc. so you may not want to be stuck with bikes and paying for them since their cost can add up real quick.

Here's their website for more info: www.torontoislandbicyclerental.com
