Westpunt hotel stay or just a day trip?

Hello everyone,

We're headed to the island for a week's stay and as of now, we plan to stay in/near town for most of our stay but would like to venture out around the island for a day or two. Does it make sense to rent a hotel room in Westpunt and spend the night or does it make more sense to just make day trips from Willemstad? It appears as if the drive is only 30 miles but we'd probably try and drive the long way around the island and do a little exploring

Thanks!

It makes more sense to stay in / or near town in this situation. It takes about 40 minutes to get to either the east or west end of the island. You can drive around the entire island more than once in a day so it does not make sense to pack everything up and move.

During our stay's on the Island we regularly take a day , leaving at 9 am , and drive out to west point making several stops along the way to visit sites like Shete Boca or Playa lagoon to sight see , swim or snorkel and we are still back at our condo by 5pm.

I too would say it is unnecessary to move from town to Westpunt for a day. Travel time is quick, and an easy drive, regardless of which direction you go to get there. Taking the southern route, thru St Willibrordus, Soto, Lagun, Knip, etc might be 45 minutes driving time, leaving plenty of time to stop to see the flamingos, drive up to the Santa Martha bay overlook, hit a few beaches for a snorkel, and photo ops at the many picturesque overlooks. Circling around to the northern route, it will only be about 30 minutes return trip. For an unusual treat, get an early start and stop for breakfast at Landhuis Daniel for their delicious Dutch pancakes, and if you go on a Friday-Sunday stop at Sol Food for lunch or dinner, an great conversation about the island with Sunshine. Enjoy your trip to Curacao...you'll love it!

Its possible to do day trips but it also depends on where you hotel is. If it is near Jan Thiel it can be a long trip also with the traffic jams at certain hours.

If you like a few laid back days you can get a room for 2 night near west punt. Even locals do that :)
