Er.... You list Playa Negra, Nosara and Manuel Antonio but say "two places" -- this is three places.

Fly into SJO San Jose. You can rent a car or take one of the shared van shuttles or hire a private driver. Go to Playa Negra first, then Nosara (which is not too far) and then to Manuel Antonio.

You may need to spend your first/last night somewhere near the airport if your flight arrives late/leaves early.

For distances and travel times, www.yourtravelmap.com Playa Negra is about 1.5 - 2 hours from Nosara.

OK, you are talking about the Playa Negra on the Pacific coast, south of Tamarindo.

But I am still puzzled because you keep talking about "two" or "both" and you have listed three locations.

If you can tell us a little bit more about what you are looking for, we might be able to make some better recommendations.

Also -- what time of year would you be here and for how long.

I will skip PN and visit Nosara and Manuel Antonio

The drive between Nosrara and MA…about 4 to 5 hours…minutes more minutes less..driving by Amistad bridge,,,hopefully the police at the forum will not ask the removal of my answer…because my driving times do not match his or her driving times…I based my driving times in well over 45 years driving around my country,,,road advisor

If you are not into touristy, then skip Manuel Antonio.

For beach and exploring the countryside -- Playa Negra and Nosara would be good. Playa Negra is a really small place that mostly specializes in surfing. From Nosara, you could do some exploring -- Playa Guiones would be a great location - and you can hope to see turtles nesting at Ostional.

Another area to consider would be the southern Nicoya Peninsula. Lots of choices of beach locations, laidback and not touristy, surfing, wildlife, waterfalls and lots to explore. www.nicoyapeninsula.com

You don't say how long you will be in Costa Rica, but as a rule of thumb, figure two locations for one week's visit. Three locations if your flight arrives early or leaves late. Depending on your flight times, you may need to spend your first/last night somewhere near the airport.
