Transfer flights and cash required

Hi everyone,

I'm flying to LBJ for 5 days. I have 2 questions.

1. For my return flight back, I have booked a 8.50am AirAsia flight on Friday from LBJ to Depansar (Bali) airport. It's supposed to land at 10.10am. after which I have an international flight by Scoot at 2.25pm. will 4 hours be sufficient to transfer flights? And will I have difficulty getting a taxi at 6am in LBJ to the airport?

2. How much cash is required? Do 1day tour operators and restaurants accept credit cards?

Please never plan on an international flight on the same day as a domestic flight to the city you are leaving from. I have several times had delays of up to more than 48 hours in Eastern Indoesia, the latest one being this year. Also LBJ is so close to the airport you won't have any problem getting transport.

Depends on which vendors you use, I would bring at least 2 million rupiah cash and a credit card. Larger vendors usually can take cards, but many small vendors like drivers/cafes and shops won't.

Unless you are staying far from the airport there is no need to take a taxi at 6 am. The airport probably even wont be open. You are able to get to the airport early morning; you won't be the only tourist :-)

The 4 hour transit in Denpasar should be ok, however you never know hour flight will be cancelled. Huge delays and cancellations are almost every day in Labuan Bajo. So better book a flight the day before in the afternoon.

There are atm´s in Labuan Bajo so you also can withdraw money there. Not all agents or restaurants accept creditcards.

@mango thanks for the word of caution. Not sure if I can change the AirAsia flight at this timing. Which flight was delayed by 48 hours? The domestic flight from LBJ to Depansar or the international flight?

@Anne don't I need to reach the airport 2hours before the flight? What time does the airport open?

@redfrost 2 hours before departure but 1,5 hours before is ok as well. Labuan Bajo airport is small.

Maybe they wont be open before 7 am or maybe 6:30.

If you stay in town then it is max 10 minutes to the airport.

So it depends where you stay; for Labuan Bajo town or Pede beach it's ok if you go to the airport around 7 am for the 8:50 flight., Maybe slightly earlier if you stay at the northern tip, but no need to depart at 6 am.

Check in online for your flights if possible. That transfer time is ok IF there is no long delay for the Airasia flight.

@Anne ok thanks for the heads-up. I'll be going from La Cecile. So probably leave at 6.30am then. Will ask the hotel for the ideal time

@nikki checking in to my flight online will probide me information when there's a delay or reschedule?

Redfrost: The last flights this year that was delayed 2 hours was domestic from Sumba to Bali, not LBJ, but just mentioned this as a word of caution. Flights I've had problems with were varied, Alor to Kupang, Lombok to Bali, even Singapore to Jakarta and Bali to Singapore..Just saying there is always the chance of a delayed flight. If the international flight is delayed it's fine, you can always wait it out. But if it's a connecting flight I've seen people screaming and crying at the airport because they lost their international flight.

@mango ok thanks for the info. decided to take the risk and leave my flight booking unchanged, since there is another AirAsia flight 1 hour later. Can try to change if there is any delay. But will avoid booking on the same day if possible next time.

Appreciate all the help everyone. Looking forward to my trip

Hi!

Did you make it eventually or did you experience any delays? I will also have a connecting international flight in Bali (3hrs layover) … hoping to make it!
