hmm silver sands looks nice!

So we are planning a trip to Jamaica in Nov and have looked at the norms, cliff area and 7-mile beach and I came upon this Duncans area with Silver Sands Beach. I'm thinking this would be nice for us. 7-mile beach looks great but hotels are not responding and a lot are already booked for room type we want. I figure we could do the cliffs and take a taxi a couple of days to 7-mile if we wanted to hang out.

And the other part of the trip so far looks like I would prefer to "stay" at this silver sands beach. I see two beach bars near and some nice AirBnBs within walking distance.

My questions are after Covid does anyone know if the two beach bars/restaurants are still open and in some pictures the beach looks fantastic and in some pictures I see a lot of seaweed and garbage, I don't know why Google does that . . .

Anyway would like some thoughts about this area lately. Thanks!

There was a member here who just got back and posted some comments recently. Hopefully they will see your post and respond. It’s been a number of years since I’ve been there but we loved it. I do follow the property and there really has not been much change.

Silver Sands has a very nice beach bar and grill. They are attached. Unless something has changed, there would not be a second beach bar on the property. There is a cool beach shack bar to the immediate west of the property. It is on the Public Dunkins beach. The beach is very nice and well worth checking out. The beach at Silver Sands is very nice and has crystal clear water and is one of the better beaches on the north coast. Due to the constant breeze, the water is not calm like Negril.

I know the little store on site closed during Covid. I would ask if that is open. It is well stocked and offers a wide selection of food and beverages and many many other items. I would look at the map and select a property that is in the middle of Silver Sands. You don’t want to be too low or you won’t have great privacy and catch a good breeze. You also will not have much of a view of the sea. If you are at the top of the community, you will have a substantial walk to get to the beach. These properties will offer very nice views of the sea and catch a great breeze. I would recommend looking at properties in the middle of the community. The walk to the beach is not too bad, there are some steps that are on common property, the views are great, and you get a good breeze. I would look closely at reviews on multiple sites of the property that you are considering and try to get a good feel for if it offers good privacy.

I think for the price, Silver Sands is a great option. If you like fresh seafood, there is a guy that comes through the community selling fish and lobsters every day. We stayed at Bluefields Bay villas in February, and I will say that Silversands was much more flexible with food options and meals. I really can’t think of anything negative or tell you things to watch out for. Again I do recommend reading as many reviews as possible on the property you are looking at.

Also, the beaches are always kept clean. Maybe that was after a storm or some guests rudely left their trash on the beach.

Are you trying to split a trip between Negril & Silver sands? Very doable as with any excursions you hire a private driver

Where on the cliffs are you staying? It’s very easy to taxi back & forth to the beach if you want.

Call properties directly. Which beach properties did you look at?

How long is your trip? I recommend staying in Negril first then Silver Sands

PEACE!

Probably the best way would be to hire a Driver licensed to drive tourists. Reggae Tours out of Montego Bay takes many people to Silver Sands and Negril. We used them when we stayed there and for some tours. They are fantastic. I’ve used them for over 15 years, used them in February to go to Bluefields Bay, and I’m using them to go to Negril in July.

I am looking at SeaGrape Villas or LTU Gardens for cliff area torn between budget do i splurge? Only 3bdrm left at seagrape villas and it is just 2 of us. LTU has pool and looks very peaceful and would give us extra $ for outings. As far as silver sands unfortunately I think it will have to wait until next trip. I already booked a jr suite at coco la palm. we will be 8 nights total 4 on cliffs 4 at beach. Coco has lenient cancellation policy so still can change mind though.

take a look at these airbnb listings:

https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/101760583

the host has 3 cottages on the property, located right next to seagrape villas.

i rented the largest cottage (neptune) a few years ago and it was perfect.

if you think you'd like seagrape you'll also love high cove.

I just returned from SilverSands May 14 th . Yes the beach bar and restaurant was open. The little on property grocery was closed . We rode down to Duncans to the store. Our Villa came with sanitizer, Masks and a thermometer. Our villa also came with transportation from the Airport . This is a very economical way for a family to stay .

We also had a driver take us from SilverSands to a local beach . Then he drove us for Pattie’s and had lunch at a local Jerk place. We were gone probably 4 hours and he charged us $40 for 3 adults and 2 kids , he was local to SilverSands.
