Can people please tell us the best museums in and near the Isle of Sheppey?. And National Trust places?
Chatham Historic Docks
I agree that the dockyard at Chatham is well worth a visit, but you might also consider neighbouring Rochester, which has a treasure trove of historical features. It has a lovely little cathedral, said to be the 2nd oldest in England, with an imposing Norman castle on the banks of the river virtually opposite. The town has strong links with Charles Dickens, with at least a couple of buildings used in his books (the Six Poor Travellers House' and 'Restoration House' - both of which I believe you can go into). There is also the Guildhall Museum that has much of local historical interest, particularly about Charles Dickens.
I have been to Rochester, I am looking for some local museums to visit, as well as ones further afield.
There's only one page of "Things To Do" on TripAdvisor for Sheppey. In case you haven't already found it:-
You'll see there are a couple of small museums like the Minster Abbey Gatehouse Museum and Queenborough Museum. No personal experience, sorry, but you can refer to the reviews.
Sheppey is rather lacking in tourist attractions outside of the holiday parks. If you are venturing to the mainland then Faversham is a nice town to wander with the Fleur de Lis museum on the main street. If you want proper touristy museums then you'll have to head to Canterbury - The Beaney is free and worthy of a visit.
In Eastchurch there is a small aviation museum, and just further along the road is the memorial to the UK's aviation history. It commemorates the UK's very first airplane factory. The original old factory has long gone, but the memorial might make a good photo. There's a pub directly opposite called the Shurland Hotel which does a good pub lunch (and has a large car park at the back). .
The Carriage Museum in Maidstone isn't too far away, and is quite interesting.
