a week is too far away when talking about smoke.

Smoke changes even hourly with the wind etc.

You can only see what it is like each day and with the weather forecasts at the time

We had about a week of beautiful clear skies in Calgary, but the wind changed and today we have smoke smell and reduced visibility.

Thank you. We are staying in east glacier and in Waterton for our weeks vacation. How would you suggest planning each day due to smoke? Determine in the a.m. where to hike after checking the smoke conditions and which would be the best way to check for that day? We cannot cancel - would lose airfare and house rental $. Thanks again

We went to WA where a wildfire started a few hours before we arrived even though we did some last minute checking.

Looked out first thing in the morning and saw that one valley was clear. Where we had planned to tour that day was solid smoke. Plans changed (-: and, the day we left; there was a road closure to get home; so we detoured.

www.511alberta.ca is the Alberta route conditions site which will have road closures. www.drivebc.ca is the other one for the area both have web cams.

The bonus: These are the kind of pictures you can get when that happens https://flic.kr/s/aHsjZ7Wvw3

+ as we live in an area that has had smoke most if this summer; the word from the health board was not to wear masks. Mainly because you suck in more air; so more smoke particles. The "regular" (cheap) masks do not sit tight enough on your face and will not stop the small smoke particles.

We have just come back from 2 weeks doing Vancouver, kamloops, valemount, Jasper, lake Louise, Banff and Calgary. I was also concerned about smoke but we only had 1 day in kamloops where visibility was effected and you could smell it in the air. The rest of the 14 days we had nothing in any location.

We live in Lethbridge - just under two hours north of Waterton and were to head down today. The smoke hits you as soon as you open the door. There is a Waterton webcam - watertonlive.com Its very smokey right now.

Hi. We’re in East Glacier area and there hasn’t been any smoke issues here or Two Medicine this week. Park is relatively empty due to travelers getting overalarmed from the news casts. Don’t change your plans! It’s fantastic here and plenty of wildlife around. Don’t know about Waterton but we’re going there this weekend.
