One question about the Merseytravel Saveaway ticket

Hi all,

During our three day stay at Liverpool, we would like to spent a day in Chester.

We have planned to go and return using the Merseytravel Save away ticket.

Do this tickets lasts 24h since its activation? If so, we are planning to use it the following day to go to Anfield by bus.

Thanks in advance!

No - Saveaway it is a one day ticket, not an "anytime within 24-hours" ticket.

To get to from Liverpool to Chester on the train you will need the All Area Saveaway ticket which costs £5.20.

To get from Liverpool city centre to Anfield you only need an Area C Saveaway which costs £3.90.

Saveaway tickets are only valid from 9.30am Monday to Friday, but all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

Hi Phil and Mat,

But (for example) if I activate the safeaway ticket today at 5:00pm, is it valid until tomorrow at 5:00pm?

Besides, the safeaway ticket allows you to use the transport as mant times you want, isn't it?

Thanks.

Matt, saveaways are valid until 2.59am the following day according to the receipt you get when you buy one on a walrus card

Perhaps Merseytravel should change their T&C's then to show that.

But that doesn't change the fact that it isn't valid for 24 hours from the time you purchase it.

Ok, now I understand

I will have to see if I have enough time to go to Anfield, just will go to take a photo outside the main entrance of the stadium.

Thanks so much

Our tickets aren't 'activated' the way they are in Europe, they are valid on the day shown.

You don't say when you are visiting but be aware that there is ongoing strike action on Merseyrail that may impact on your plans.

No further dates for strikes have been announced yet but this dispute is unlikely to go away in a hurry.

Keep an eye on the Merseyrail website for updates:

And don't forget the engineering work.

At the moment all trains to the Wirral and Chester start/terminate at Liverpool James Street and don't call at Lime Street, Central and Moorfields.

On some days you might even have to get a bus replacement service from Liverpool to Birkenhead to continue your journey by train to Chester (and the Wirral).
