Take a look at the London Frequently Answered Questions or the current post titled Christmas tea re Christmas Day.

Boxing Day the sales wil be on in the shops.

Other than that then if there is somewhere you want to go to check if they are open first.

They will all have web sites.

Here's a cut-and-paste from teh relevant FAQs post:

***********************************************

WHAT IS OPEN ON CHRISTMAS? WHERE CAN I EAT? IS THERE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ON CHRISTMAS DAY?

If possible, DO NOT PLAN YOUR ARRIVAL FOR CHRISTMAS DAY. THERE IS NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, and only a limited number of ethnic and hotel restaurants are open.

This information may change, but in general:

* The Tube runs a Sunday service on the 24th with the last train around 00:30.

* THERE IS NO TUBE SERVICE ON CHRISTMAS DAY. A reduced service runs on Boxing Day with some stations closed.

* THERE IS NO BUS SERVICE ON CHRISTMAS DAY, and a Sunday service on Boxing Day from 08.30.

* Taxis will carry a surcharge (in 2007 it was £4) for journeys between 8.00pm on Dec 24 and 6.00am on Dec 27 AND between 8.00pm on Dec 31 and 6.00am on Jan 2.

Ailidh, don't you find attending church on the 25th interferes with your enjoyment of the spirit of Christmas?

Yes, but going to the sales on Boxing Day quickly restores it.

Boxing Day is one of the best days of the year, if you like cold turkey or have an interest in sport.

Race meetings over the jumps (Kempton or perhaps Plumpton if you fancy getting out of town, both are accessible by train) or of course plenty of footie games with big crowds and great atmosphere, as they're often local derbies. Think something like Leyton Orient -v- Swindon rather than Premier League if you don't want a difficult ticket hunt though.

Arriving on Christmas Day, we're going to walk through the quiet streets and get good and tired before Christmas dinner, so we can sleep well and adjust to the massive time difference without too much trouble. I'll be checking the Time Out website nearer to the day for music programs inside the churches.

Boxing Day afternoon, we'll see the new Trevor Nunn production of "Kiss Me Kate" at the Old Vic.

Then, ice skating at Somerset House, followed by a nice meal at one of the restaurants in Time Out's Boxing Day list.

Finally, in the evening, we'll see Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry in the Globe's (all male) "Twelfth Night" production, which will be playing in the West End.

Good times!

I meant to mention that St. Martin in the Fields has a gorgeous Boxing Day Baroque concert every year. We can't attend though because of our theatre plans.
