Settle and surroundings by public transport

Hi. I and my wife would be traveling from Edinburgh to Settle via Carlisle and planning to stay in Settle for 3-4 nights. We are in our 30s are would love to see the beautiful places in and around Settle. Would love relaxing walks but not strenuous treks. We don't drive,so would rely on public transport. We also plan to go and visit the caves and falls in Ingleton. Is the public transport alright to visit the nearby areas? I have never been to this part, so alternate suggestions regarding stay at other places would also be welcome. Thanks in advance.

You'll be best off sticking to the train I'd think. There are plenty of nice villages a short journey from Settle. Sunday services are not limited, so if you're there over a Sunday maybe make that your day in and around Settle itself.

Is this as well as your Lake District trip, or as an alternative to it?

Be aware that the timetables for buses through Settle are changing at the start of March - a link to the timetables before and after this date can be found here - www.dalesbus.org/cravenconnection.html .

Infrequent local service 11 also serves Settle - see northyorkstravel.info/timetable/11sep17.pdf .

There are currently no bus service to/from Settle on Sundays or on Public Holidays, but links to the timetables of Sunday buses that operate during the Spring and Summer can be found here: http://www.dalesbus.org/summer.html .

Thanks for the replies. I think our options are limited then. We are planning to do lake District as well after this trip. I have heard from my friends about the caves in Ingleton and the train from Carlisle to settle which we would definitely like to do. I will try to find out from the above links what options we have.

I have never visited them but according to Google Maps, the caves appear to be some distance from the centre of Ingleton which is where the bus stops. Also do not expect to find taxis hanging around in the centre of Settle or Ingleton - they usually have to be pre-booked in country areas.
