Buses in Reading over Christmas and New Year

Bus operators in Reading will have special schedules between Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24th December and Friday 2nd January.

Passengers should check with the bus companies for precise information, but the general outline is as follows:

Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24th December - most routes will operate to Saturday timetables, and finish early, with last departures around 19.00-20.00. Routes 1, 28, 82, 126/128/129, 500, 800/850 and Greenwave services will operate to a Monday-Friday timetable with early finish. After 20.00 Reading Buses will provide a half-hourly evening service on route 17 until just after 23.00, and routes 6, 9a, 21, 23/24 & 26 will have a special hourly night service until around 23.00.

Christmas Day, Thursday 25th December - no buses will operate in Reading

Boxing Day, Friday 26th December - Reading Buses will run a Sunday level of service, but commencing after 09.00 and finishing around 18.00; except route 1 will have a full Sunday service, route 19b will operate hourly and route 82k will not operate. RailAir will run a special hourly service between Reading and Heathrow Airport, with alternate journeys running to/from Gatwick Airport. No other buses will operate in Reading.

Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th December - normal weekend services

Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th, Wednesday 31st December and Friday 2nd January - most routes will operate to Saturday timetables, except routes 28, 82, 126/128/129, 500 and Greenwave which will operate to Monday-Friday timetables. On Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th AND FRIDAY 2nd last buses on routes 5, 6, 9a, 23/24 & 26 will be at Monday-Thursday times and the night service on routes 17 & 21 will operate hourly.

On New Year's Eve Reading Buses will run a full evening service to the Saturday timetable, including late night buses until around 01.30-02.00 on routes 5, 6, 9a, 23/24 & 26 and a Saturday night timetable on 24-hour route 21; 24-hour route 17 will have an enhanced 10-minute frequency from 20.00 until 01.30. Tickets purchased on 31st December or expiring on that date will be valid until last buses, or until 03.59 on routes 17 and 21. However, routes run by other operators will finish early on New Year's Eve with last buses around 19.00-20.00.

New Year's Day, Thursday 1st January: Reading Buses will operate a full Sunday timetable, except route 82k will not operate. A full Sunday timetable will also operate on routes 90, X40 and RailAir, but no service on route 800.

A couple of corrections to the above:

Thames Travel route X40 WILL have a limited service on Boxing Day and New Year's Day; Sunday times but with last buses at 16.45 Oxford-Reading and 18.15 Reading-Wallingford on both days.

Also on New Year's Eve a full Saturday night service will operate on route X40, except the 23.05 Reading-Oxford will terminate in Wallingford and the 00.20 Oxford-Wallingford will not run.

Greenwave services will finish early on New Year's Eve with last departures just after 20.00.
