We are a party of 8 adults staying in Betws y Coed at the end of May 2018. Are there are any shops to purchase food supplies for self catering?
There are a couple of small mini market type of shops
They are fine for topping up I suppose but not for stocking up for 8 people
There are major supermarkets in the area and as for location it depends on the direction you will be taking to get there .
There is a large Tesco on the A55 near Llandudno

I would definitely locate a major supermarket en route
If you can say where you are coming from then I could be more specificEdited: 26 January 2018, 01:20
We’re staying in the middle of nowhere in North Wales tonight as it happens - and we’ve got a Tesco delivery order for late afternoon. Always worth checking the major supermarket delivery areas - then you can spend more time enjoying your break and less time shopping.
Nice one Mike
I often see the vans on the lanes so should have thought of that !
A half hour drive “ to the shops” is not out of the ordinary
If I need a paper or some milk it can be a 40- 50 minutes round trip depending on whether there are cows or sheep on the road
You learn to remember or do without LOL
Enjoy your stayEdited: 26 January 2018, 02:45
Thanks mate. It probably won’t arrive now I’ve said that...or we’ll get Jerusalem Artichokes as a substitute for baked beans.
Jerusalem Artichokes in North Wales
I spend most of the summer esp weekends in North Wales and can hardly get WiFi so online ordering is not possible
As an aside
When driving around see if you can spot a proper greengrocer
Plenty of butchers even in the small villages
To our OP
Good local meat, bread and honey

Betws-y-Coed has a Spar and a Londis which are both small. The nearest reasonably sized shop is the Co-op five miles away in Llanrwst, which is well hidden so you need to know where to look for it, but should be sufficient for a bit of grocery shopping. Tesco in Llandudno Junction is another twelve miles or so away from Betws and is quite a small branch, however Llandudno Junction also has an Asda convenience store and an Iceland so between those three shops you should thing pretty much everything you might need.
I can certainly endorse the convenience and reasonable choice of the Co-Op in Llanrwst (as mentioned about 5 miles from Betws) . The first time we self catered in the area we did use the Tesco in Llandudno Junction, but the last couple of times we were very satisfied with the Llanrwst Co-Op. It IS tucked away though, but only a street or two away from the Llanrwst central plaza (take the A548 North for a block and make the first left turn!).Edited: 26 January 2018, 13:25
Thanks everybody for your advice. So helpful but it shows we'll have to be organised.
