I thought I would start a thread off for Scotland Trip Reports (and will try and get it added as a sticky on the Scotland Forum) and thought I would start it off by adding the link to this one from dahlia810

Good idea goanjock - I'll add a link on the UK thread so people don't miss this (shame I can't change the opening post).
Thanks for the sticky TA :-) Feel free everyone to add links to your trip reports here or just post your trip reports.

What are forum guidelines?Hi my wife and I are planing on a river cruise in Europe from May 13 to May 20, 2018 I am coming from the US. I have been in England before but never Scotland and I understand that Scotland is beautiful. I would like to fly into Edinburgh on 4/9/18 (leaving US night of 4/8/18) and spend a couple of days there until 4/11/18 and then fly to Amersterdam for my cruise. I would appreciate any advise on places to see in a limited time and tours. Also hotels to stay at. We are 64 y/o and love history and beautiful scenery. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

Dear Louis H,
You're correct that Scotland is beautiful! However, I fear that you won't see much in just a couple of days. In that extremely limited time, what I would do would be to hire a car in Edinburgh and drive to St. Andrews, which is about 30 miles northeast of Edinburgh. Stay there and visit the area around there (known as the East Neuk - or East 'Corner') of Fife. St. Andrews itself has one of the oldest universities (founded in the 15th Century). It also has St. Andrews Cathedral, now a ruin, but built in 1158. So that ticks the history box.
The area around St. Andrews has many pretty coastal towns and villages. Probably the jewel in the crown is Crail, but Anstruther and Pittenweem are also lovely. Beautiful scenery - tick!
Enjoy!
