Hi,

If you are at Thurnham you could go to Glasson Dock for a stroll around and a bite to eat in the cafe or the pub there. Not much in the way of shops but a nice little village.

If you want shops, you could go to Freeport shopping village at Fleetwood, or why not try Lancaster City Centre, it's full of shops, cafe's and pubs and you could go for a stroll round the Castle. If you don't want to drive into Lancaster, the bus stops at the gate of Thurnham Hall and will take you directly into the City Centre, or a taxi will set you back about £15 each way. If you want to eat in the City I can recommend the Water Witch pub on the canal side next to the hospital. They serve very good food, wine and ales.

Last but not least, and only for the brave there is Morecambe! Not much to do there in Winter but they have a decent market there on a Sunday if that's the sort of thing that floats your boat.

On your journey up to Windermere you could go via Newby Bridge and call in a Grange over Sands for a while and have a walk and a bite to eat there.

If you have any specific questions, please ask away, and enjoy your trip.

well... this Sunday we are going to Lytham Hall for the snowdrop walk (weather permitting). www.lythamhall.co.uk/programme_of_events.html

There's also a nice tearoom on site or cafes and shops in nearby Lytham or St Annes.

Freeport is a good suggestion for the shops, but it does get busy at the weekend. If you go, dont eat on site - there's a couple of good fish-n-chip shop/cafes within a couple of minutes (Richardsons on Dock Street and the Granada Bar, North Albert St).

If the weather isnt up to much, Guys Thatched Hamlet just off the A6 between Lancaster and Preston is another regular outing destination for lunch. Owd Nells, the pub part, sits alongside the canal with barges going by. You can also take a short walk alongside the canal or ask for a duck bag and feed the ducks. www.guysthatchedhamlet.co.uk

Kirkby Lonsdale would be idea. Take a drive up through the Lune Valley, depending on how able MiL is then you could stop at the Crook of Lune for a beautiful walk along the river, work up an appetite for lunch. There are a couple of good pubs on the route, the Lunesdale Arms is my favorite but The Highwayman is also good. Then Kirkby itself is a very pretty market town. Nice independent shops, coffee shops & restaurants. The Sun does a great Sunday lunch. Hope you have an excellent weekend!

Lytham Hall is a lovely place for a Sunday Outing.

Especially when they hold a Special Event, like the recent Vintage Fair / Easter Egg Hunt.

The Hall has lovely grounds, tours of Lytham Hall, and a really nice Tea Room, with spotlessly clean Loo's.

Free admission mon - fri and a pound enterance fee on sunday.

The whole family will enjoy it.
