Le vieux port

Family of 5 -- boys 15 , 13 and 11 - all surfers. Booked at Le vieux port but anxious re reports of very busy and noisy ( which we don't like). Have we made a mistake? Could go north to chalets in Lacanau. Any advice gratefully received.

We did not go in the end - but have booked for a few nights this year as heard good reports whilst on another site in France (Hourtin Plage, nr Bordeaux - going back as boys loved it).

If it helps, the clients I have picked up from there don't normally complain on the journey back to the airport.

It is a very large campsite. Children will love it. So many activities plus an excellent beach at the back of the campsite.

The squirrels and rabbits are absolutely fabulous to watch. The rabbits will come up close if you put out some lettuce outside your mobile home. Brilliant.

However, it is tucked away a bit so trips outside the site do take time. But Biarritz is beautiful as is La Petite Train de la Rhune. Also the town of .... I can't remember it at the moment but the place where all the houses have chillies outside them.

It can get noisy but the site is well patrolled.

There is a supermarket about 100 yards from the campsite entrance.

Been there lots of times, fantastic, loads to do and good restuarants, careful of the under currents just off the beech. if you do go to la Rhune the same day find Col D'IBidan up in the mountains, all duty free and great views.

@Bean A, the town you are thinking off is Espelette. You can easily combine it with a trip to the Petit Train de la Rhune and shopping at the Col d'Ibardin

http://g.co/maps/3vnhy I think the shops are the 'B' on the link.
