2 nights in JLP or surrounds before 3 nights in Nice

Hi All.

We have three nights in Nice booked already (end of Sept) and two nights to spare in a 6 day drive from Carcassonne to Nice prior to that. We are considering spending two nights in JLP or a surrounding area. We have a hire car which will be dropped off in Nice. Then we have three days to see Nice and surrounds by public transport.

Question I guess is should we do two nights in JLP before our three in Nice or is there a surrounding area that may be better suited for a two night stay and we can travel into JLP beach, shops and restaurants etc

How is parking in the area?

We are not fussed about a 'beach'holiday as we take these often here in AUS and around Asia so want to see local area, scenery, nice drives, cafes, restaurants etc

thanks for any advice you may have.

JLP is 15 minutes from Nice by car.. How about Bormes, Hyeres, Six Fours, Sanary, Bandol, St Cyr, La Ciotat, Cassis, Martigues or even a bit further west ?

If beaches are not a priority JLP may not make a lot of sense -it is really only beach. Its twin-Antibes has a lot more variety, culture and historical associations plus over 50 good restaurants - all eminently walkable. Parking should not be a major problem anywhere end of Sept, except perhaps Nice.

In any event all the coastal hot spots -Cannes,JLP,Antibes,Villefranche Monaco are less than an hour from Nice by frequent train -so any town offers quick access to all the others cheaply.

Staying in Nice would save you all the packing, moving, and unpacking activities that eat up your time.

Thanks very much everyone. The other towns suggested will be looked into tonight. We are driving for six days before our three nights in nice so happy to find a different place to stay than jlp.

As a first time visitor on my second week in Antibes I would agree with Mr LG, Antibes has much more of interest, particularly since you are here for a short time. It is very compact and has lots to see.

The transport system is superb, and even if you base yourselves in Nice you can get to anywhere cheaply and easily by train or bus. Buy the Isabelle day pass and hop on/off the train all along the coast.

In Nice don't miss the chateau with it's amazing views over the whole coast.

Have fun!
