Port transport to the city centre

Hi, we are docking in Marseille in February and i've heard there is a shuttle from the ships to the entrance to the port. How do we get into the town from there? Is it walking distance or is there a bus? We don't want to get a taxi. Also is the Le Grand Tour HoHo bus worth using or is Marseille small enough to walk around easily?

Thanks a million

The walk from the terminal to the center is probably around 1 hour. If you search the forum you will find there is a bus, 35 if I recall, that can get you towards the center. A taxi would cost 20€. In France, you only pay what's on the meter, no tip required.

There is enough around the Vieux Port: Notre Dame de la Garde, Abbaye Saint Victor, Le Panier, Vieille Charite Museum in the Panier, calanques boat ride, to keep you busy for a day without a bus tour. You could take the metro to the Palais Longchamp that is a bit out of the way.

There are also posts from AnglaiseaMarseille that have a link to things to do in Marseille in this forum.
