Suggestion for day beach trip from Barcelona by train/bus

Hello,

I am interested in visiting a beautiful and family friendly beach which is outside Barcelona and can be covered as a day trip by Train or bus.

I came across 2 - Sant Pol de Mar beach or Sitges. Can you please let me know which one can be better choice and if there is any other to consider?

I also came across - Costa Brava, but as I have understood, its not convenient by public transport.

thanks for your feedback and help.

Go to Sitges.

It is touristic but a very nice and friendly town with a wide sandy beach and easy access by train (around 35 minutes).

The northern beaches are, mostly, narrower, less sandy and, up tor Malgrat del Mar, separated from the towns along the way by the railway tracks and, in many parts, by the old national highway N-II (it's not wide but with plenty of traffic). From there the train turns inland (last beach town stop is at Blanes, which has a nice beach) and after tat is the start of Costa Brava, which is beautiful but rockier with small, and mostly narrow, stretches beach. As you go north the rockier it gets (Castell-Platja d'Aro, Sant Antoni de Calonge and Palamós is the longest sand stretch there, it's very nice and accessible bu bus).

If it's really the beach that you are after I'd suggest Castelldefels. It's on the same train line that goes to Sitges (closer to Barcelona), but the beach is a lot wider there. (Overall, for a day trip, I prefer Sitges. But I care more about my Paella and white wine than about the beach.... :-)

Another option: Vilanova i La Geltrú, next town after Sitges in the same train line. Huge beaches and not so touristy so less crowded than Sitges (even still busy) in high season. Great places for eating as well, not overpriced, and overall very familiy friendly.

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions. If all these beaches are on the same side of Sitges and are on the same train, is it worth covering 2 of them? Can I use same train ticket to travel or for each time, I have to take different.

Also, are all of them at very near / walking distance from train station.

thank you in advance for your feedback.

Garraf is a great little beach on the way to Sitges from Barcelona

It's mentioned here as one of the top 10 beaches in Catalonia: http://www.apartmentbarcelona.com/blog/2014/06/12/top-10-beaches-catalonia/

How to get there: http://www.bcn.travel/destination-barcelona/garraf-beach
