Nice drives from Madrid to Santiago?

I asked this question on the Galicia forum, but got no answer...

We want to drive in October, from Madrid to Santiago (and back) and would like to take scenic routes. We were thinking of first staying overnight in Penafiel, before heading to Santiago and on the way back maybe stay overnight in Salamanca. We have 9 to 10 days for this, with 3 or 4 nights in Santiago.

Can anyone give us some ideas? Thanks.

1. Re: Nice drives from Madrid to Santiago?

US, Canadians and citizens of countries outside the European Union need an international driving permit to drive in Spain.

Peñafiel is a very small town. I would not stay overnight there.
