Mid-October too late to tour Sicily?

We could book our car and bnb trip from late Sept thru October. Are things, such as bnb's, still open by October? Boat excursions, tourist sites still open? Just wondering if it makes a difference to book in Sept over October. Also would need flight or ferry from Naples into Sicily...ferries still running in October? Thanks! Tim

The beaches might be closed. We visited western Sicily in Feb 2010 and visited, Erice, Selinunte, Segesta, Zingaro Nature Preserve, Agrigento, and Marsala. Some of the restaurants in the smalleer town were closed in the winter. We styed in a hotel in Castellammare del Golfo and rented a car. We flew in and out of Palermo.

Of course if would depend on where in Sicily...beach towns and tourist resorts will be mostly shut or very quiet, larger cities and towns will be active as usual, and major tourist sites are open year round.

Also ferries to/from Naples works in every season, but flying in would be surely more convenient.

We expect to go to a few cities, including Agrigento. We will be flying or ferrying in from Naples. I wonder if it's worth going to the Aeolian for a day on the way to Sicily in October? Anyway, always thanks for your help!

Welcome to Sicily TIM V!

September and October are two of the best months to visit Sicily.

The end of September is ideal with fewer crowds. It's has been warm and delightful these past two Octobers. Tourists were swimming, even if full services at beaches weren't available.

TTT Lines runs overnight ferry service from Naples to Catania.

Tirrenia or SNAV run overnight ferry service from Naples to Palermo.

You might fly Alitalia, Meridiana (Air Italy), or easyJet from Naples to Catania, or you might fly Alitalia or Volotea from Naples to Palermo.

If you were to fly Alitalia, book the Alitalia tickets on the Italian website for the lowest fares - Save Money By Booking Alitalia Flights “Like a Local”:

Although Siremar runs ferry service from Naples to Milazzo via the Aeolians, it could be risky in autumn with rough seas.

Typically a night suffices in Agrigento.

Best wishes!
