Catania port versus Taormina!

We will be in Catania Sicily port for one day only. We have never been there, but I have been reading that it is worth skipping Catania and going to Taormina instead. Does anyone out there have an opinion on Catania versus Taormina. Is it worth staying in Catania for a day or should we hire a driver to take us to Taormina? Would love to hear from you. Thanks.

Taormina trumps Catania, but also consider Siracusa depending on interests.

Your choice is dependent on what you want to see and how much travelling you want to do.

For a genuine working Sicilian city, great markets, some history, good authentic restaurants no travelling Catania.

For Greek ruins, beautiful views of the coast and Etna, tourist shops and restaurants, nice cafe's with 3-4 hrs travelling Taormina.

For a coast location, small market, historic churches, good restaurants by the sea. Ortiga at Siracusa with 2-3 hours travelling.

Thank you so much what is Siracusa like and do you happen to know how far Taormina is from the Catania port? Last question, do you happen to know a driver we can hire to take us to Taormina and wait for us to come back?

What day of the week would you arrive?

If a Sunday, Catania would be quiet and the markets would be closed. Siracusa’s market would also be closed on a Sunday, or the market would have only a few stalls open.

There are also beach opportunities at Taormina, as well as the ability to explore a mediaeval town.

There are boating opportunities at Taormina and Siracusa.

Siracusa is an historical destination with an archaeological park and museum as well as Ortigia.

You would essentially have the same driving time from Catania’s port to Taormina or Siracusa, about an hour in each direction.

Contact New Travel Services, Sicily Life, or Sicily Limousine Service fro driver service from Catania to Taormina.

Contact Siracusa Taxi Sebastiano Garrofalo, Siracusa Taxi di Sandro Rubino, or Guiseppe (Pepe) Trupia (+39 330975689, 330975689@tim.it) for driver services from Catania to Siracusa.
