Hotel to relax for a day (not spend night) in Palermo

Half a dozen of us are going to a villa near Palermo in late September for a couple of weeks. At the end we have to leave by 10 a.m. but our flight is not until the late evening. Does anyone know of suitable hotel in Palermo where we could hire a room and hang about in comfort, play cards in the lobby, and maybe enjoy a local meal nearby etc to while away the time comfortably. We would not be staying the night.

Forgot to mention that we don't mind paying for the night, just we will not be sleeping in the beds - so hard beds etc are no problem; we just want somewhere comfortable to hang. A really nice lounge area around the reception area beats wonderful breakfasts and things.

Interesting

What time do you have to leave for the airport?

You would likely need a hotel that would guarantee early check in (compared to say 2 PM)

Are you thinking of renting a room for one or two people and then 6 show up to make at least some use of the room - like naps or WC? or freshen up? I could see the management possibly asking about that during your stay As you know each person staying has to register.

Where will your luggage be - with you in the hotel or in cars?

Hopefully someone will come up with a specific recommendation that will accommodate your needs, and have actually done it.

Welcome to Sicily KevinBarry2!

You're interested in day-use hotels (10:00 until 17:00), and there are three in Palermo.

We have to leave for the airport around 18.00 I guess, as the flight is at 20.35. We only need somewhere comfortable to sit around, and in my case have an hour's sleep in the afternoon. I can do that almost anywhere and do not need a bed as such. Nor do we really need a hotel room. Hiring a room just seemed the only obvious way of getting into a comfortable lounge area etc for us to to sit around.

If anyone knows a place where we can hang around in comfort for half a day (October 4th this year) and that does not require a hotel room - fantastic! Roughly speaking, it would be from 11.00 to 18.00 in all and a couple of hours might well be spent in a restaurant.

Half of us are pensioners, hence I was hoping to find a bit of comfort rather than sitting on a bench in a square all day! Especially if it is raining....

Our luggage would be left in the car which will be dropped off a the airport.

If you'd like an hour's sleep in the afternoon, then surely consider booking a hotel room, although you could spend some time in a restaurant, and then even a museum.

You might consider a day-use hotel, but if you don't mind paying for the night as you indicated, you could stay anywhere.

Really reconsider leaving your luggage unattended in the car.

Either store your luggage at a hotel (the day-hotel, or the hotel from the previous night), or store your luggage at the train station, or port. It is always a risk to leave luggage unattended in the car, and don't leave anything in the car that you can't afford to lose.

Thanks Vagabonda - good advice. I am beginning to suspect that a restaurant and maybe a museum would be a better and cheaper bet. I originally thought that the flight out was around 23.00 but found I was mistaken when I checked it. As long as it is dry I would be happy sleeping on my back in park or elsewhere. The tip about the luggage was most valuable. We shall follow your suggestions here.

Prego KevinBarry2,

You could easily spend several hours enjoying a leisurely lunch, and then if the weather were to cooperate, you could enjoy time at a park or garden, and if the weather were not to cooperate, then you could seek some indoor attractions.

However at €49, the day-use hotels are reasonably priced.

And surely you would never leave your luggage unattended in a car.

If the weather is really bad, then those hotels look good, but as you see, in your case you would need 3 rooms for your party of 6, and most likely your villa wants you completely gone, unlike hotels that usually store luggage but you can ask.

I also note those hotels say they are really discreet, it is possible to stay without credit card or any trace you were there, but your pensioners probably do not need that benefit.

When faced with this situation i usually try to go to see other things, maybe sleep in the car for a power nap until time to go to the airport.

Good luck

There's always left luggage storage at the train station or at the port.

Thanks all for the help. It looks as if I shall not bother with a hotel. We will not leave luggage in a parked car either! If the weather is good, it will be a leisurely restaurant, then wander around and see the sights. I shall grab a nap in a park or in the car if it rains. It looks as if dumping the luggage at the station will be the easiest solution.

Again, thanks for the info. and it has helped make up my mind. Also saved me a bit of money so it is a win-win here!
