I second that! It offers reduced portions too so you can try more than one thing

You must have a meal at the Osteria Santo Spirito on Piazza Santo Spirito 16 at least once. The food is incredible value and the atmosphere is intimate and and atmospheric. The square itself is stunning at sunset. Perfection.

A couple of other choices are

Olio&Convivium on Via di Santo Spirito, 4. Unforgettable.

Il Santo Betivore on Via di Santo Spirito 64. Yummy.

Good luck and happy eating.

Al Santo Bevitore is a tavern where patrons are mostly locals, the menu is not extensive nor expensive.

I suggest Munaciello restaurant, that is in via Maffia 31 red, few steps from via Santo Spirito. It is open at dinner every day and you can reserve a table calling 055287198.

I like the characteristic atmosphere and food is great. You can eat special pizza, made according the original Naples tradition. Great seafood as well.

Not mentioned is Angiolino, which I think is the longest established of those actually on via Santo Spirito.

On Piazza della Passera is Il Magazzino - full of character and locals, while quite near in via de Serragli there is another favourite of mine:- Ginone, which serves good food in a very friendly and warm atmosphere.

Angiolino and Il Magazzino are open every day. Ginone is open for Sunday lunch, closed for Sunday dinner and Monday lunch and open again Monday evening.

I know the question has been literally answered but just wondering is there something special about this area for eating?

Or to put it another way do any knowledgeable TAs recommend certain AREAS of Florence for eating/searching for that non touristy establishment where the food is a good standard and not a rip off price- ah the holy grail!!!!!!!!, and probably difficult in a town where tourists (like me) are everywhere too.

Any feed back gratefully received

No, there aren't less touristy areas in Florence, for what we have seen. A nearby town where the feelings can be a bit different is Prato.

Maybe the Sant'Ambrogio area for non-touristy places, but in my personal opinion the food is not of an unusually high standard there either, although the locals might beg to differ!
