Hi. I need to get from the Brussels airport to downtown Wavre on January 7, 2014. What would be the train routing from the airport to Wavre? and cost? Or would a bus be available/better?
There are no buses from the airport to Wavre: http://www.brusselsairport.be/en/passngr/to_from_brussels_airport/bus/
However, Brussels Airport has its own station, below the airport (just follow signs to trains) and from there the fastest route is 49 mins via Leuven, departing at 39 mins past each hour. Otherwise 1h10, changing at both Bruxelles-Nord and Ottignies and departing at 59 mins past each hour.
Cost is €11.20 single (one way) - for either route, you just tell the ticket clerk your destination is Wavre and take whichever train is next (or you prefer), the ticket is not for a specific departure but for any train(s) on that route on the date in question.
Alternatively, you could get off the airport train at Bruxelles-Midi (20 mins, €7.80) and then take TEC bus 123 to Wavre, from the stop in Avenue Fonsny opposite the Ibis Hotel, but this would take longer than the train (list of TEC buses with links to timetables on http://www.infotec.be/Medeplacer/Horaires/Toutesleslignes.aspx?tec=TECBW).
Thank you! That is very clear and helpful.
