How to get to Supermarket for "big shop" without hiring car?

Hi, I'll be arriving in Albuferia at the end of May for 1 week with my husband and two small children - we wont be hiring a car (transfers have been arranged with Algarve Rentals) - we would like to go on first day and do big shop with all the essentials we'll need for the week ahead (a necessity with 2 small kids) - rather than walk miles to supermarket with two buggys and basically shop just for what we can carry back, was thinking it would be good to organise taxi or similiar service to take us to one of the bigger supermarkets e.g. Lidl or Modelo - just wondering how best to organise this - we are staying in privately owned apartments near the Globe roundabout so its not as if there is a taxi rank nearby (maybe Im wrong) or it may be possible to walk to supermarket and get taxi back - Im thinking more about when returning from supermarket with bags, kids, frozen items etc how we can hail a taxi from there - any ideas welcome??

There is a taxi rank outside Modelo and as it is the largest shop with the most choices would be your best bet. You can walk or take the bus there and get a taxi back, which will cost you about €4.

Thanks for that info - what direction/how far is it from Globe roundabout - we are staying in the Parque da Corcovada complex - will it take long to walk? Many thanks

From Corcovada it will take you approx 20/25 minutes walking, but having two small children maybe a little longer. Distance is approx 2kms, but when you get to the worms roundabout it is all uphill to the Watches roundabout where Modelo is situated.

You could ring a taxi to pick you up at your accommodation to Modelo but it will cost an extra 80cents on top of the fare. The taxi office number is 00351 289 58323

I am also not sure whether you will be charged extra for shopping bags in the taxi boot, maybe Cubsur will know.

Hi . cubsur has made a great map ,very easy to follow, showing the Globe and Modelo . Turn right at the Globe coming from Corcovoda and 12/15 minutes walk will get you there . Lots of shops ,bars, restaurants on the way and the Taxi rank is just outside the Modelo and all the drivers have good English and are very helpful. Fresh fish, fruit, veg and much cheaper than Ireland.Im not too keen on the red meats but the chicken is superb in the oven or B.B.Q. Lidl a bit further on but has a great range too and the beer/wine is great value .

Whoops forgot, from globe roundabout you need to be going in the direction of the old town.

It's very easy, just walk along the main road, if you go the other way, you will see that you are heading out of Albufeira.

Thanks for all the information - very helpful indeed and the map is fantastic for all main points - had been looking for something like this on various websites but nothing as detailed so I'll definatley be taking a copy with me. Think we'll possibly walk to Modelo and then get taxi back - if we're charged extra for the bags, we'll not complain as it will be good to get one big shop done at beginning of holiday which will keep us going for whole week - it will be worth it in longrun. Thanks again for everyone who contributed to the post especially Jayjan for providing the taxi telephone number and the map link.

Ciara if you want a small supermarket for emergency things near Corcovada, go to the globe roundabout walk straight across into Estrada St Eulalia and approx 200mtrs down on right hand side is St Eulalia Stores its directly on the corner, plus there is an ATM machine if you need one. Enjoy your hols!!!
