I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of trying to watch BBC 1 or 2 on a tablet whilst away recently?

We have been to Funchal several times and, in the past, have not missed not being able to access either channel however we would like to watch a couple of things during our next visit just before Christmas.

Can anyone suggest or recommend a legal, or semi-legal, way to connect via the iPlayer? I am aware of 'TVCatchup' and 'http://FilmOn.TV' but can't seem to find any reviews or advice on them!

Thanks in anticipation of your help!

Filmon.tv now requires a subscription fee. I haven't used it since, but it was always ok to use. All depends on whether there is a reliable wifi signal where you will be. Also, BBC have recently increased the blocking of iPlayer from overseas IP addresses. Even using a UK proxy server is not guaranteed to work in my experience, you can experiment with that.

I have had a look for you Gwyn & what cubsur says is correct.Only way around it that I can see is by a VPN !!! to mask your IP address & it will cost you.Just google "bbc tv online abroad" & it will give you an idea what I have mentioned.

Personally I would not go down that avenue. Its just making yourself problems & then it may not work. You have not said where you are staying.Do they have it on their system? Maybe visit a local bar & ask them if they have it.If no joy, just enjoy Madeira & watch the programmes when you get back home on the BBC ketchup

Hi

I joined Expats abroad VPN and have used it for about 3yrs and have not had any problems. I have tried using it without payment but for the £4 ish it isn't worth the trouble and you get a good service and an excellent customer service, If I'm not going away for a while I cancel my sub and rejoin again when I need it. I have used it in Barbados, Croatia, Montenegro to name a few. You do need a good wifi, I find that usually self catering the wifi is usually very good, hotel rooms can sometimes be hit and miss but if the room wifi isn't very strong then I go to an area in the hotel and download from BBC iplayer or which ever channel I want to watch and watch it in my room. I only subscribe to UK Tv but you can subscribe to other countries. I have never had any problem and them have sent good instructions. I lost connection in Barbados, I emailed them and they sorted it out for me. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will give the 'Ex Pats' one a go and, as Christe says, it is only £4 so certainly worth trying.

If it doesn't work very well it doesn't really matter 😎

It all depends what makes you happy. We have full days out exploring on our own or joining in a tour, if warm enough spend time on the beach swimming and reading. We like Ballroom and Latin dancing but from what I've research not a lot in Funchal for that. We enjoy our meal out and leave it a little later but we don't drink much and sitting in a bar isn't what we enjoy. We are in our 70,s so clubbing, well been there and done it, so at times watching catch up is just what we enjoy. Each to our own. Gywn M if you want the link please message me only there a quite a few out there. Regards

If it doesn't work or your not happy with it they will refund an I'm not sure if the first month is free. I can send a link and more info if you want because there are a few out there that look the same. Regards Chris

The free ones I've used have been so unreliable but will look at this one. Thanks
