Any recommendations for the best places for lunch in Plaka in June? Also, any particular shops that are not to be missed?
A good place to eat is "Scholarhion" on Tripodon St. It's a fixed price (14 euros) menu for which you get to choose 4-5 dishes from about a dozen on offer, the price includes bread, water, a beer or a half carafe of house wine, and a dessert. It's a good place to sit and watch the world go by if you can get an outside table. There's the "Kritiko" taverna too, can't remember the address, but it's on a stepped alleyway between two streets. They often have live music in the evenings and a great atmosphere.
As for shops, I guess it depends what you are shopping for.Edited: 02 June 2010, 03:45
Thanks, GB - We'll check them out!
The main shopping street is Ermou, in the part which runs from Syntagma to Thission.
For restaurants - here you can see Scholarhion:
You will also find many options along Adrianou in the lower part between Monastiraki and Thission.
Hey and welcome dr1950:-) Just to add to the wonderful advice already given....I think some of the best eats and shopping can be done at some of the many wonderful Museums the City offers! Some of my faves are the Cycladic, Benaki and Akropolis Museum..the latter in the shadow of the Akropolis w/a huge outdoor dining area where you can sit and have a cup of coffee..or feast! I've purchased my share of Olive oil soaps, keychains, magnets, etc., but find items at the Museum gift shops make for wonderful, unique and quality souvies..as well as gifts;-) Have fun and EnjoY!
