Parking at the port

Hi

Does anyone know if there is a car park at the port where we can leave our rental car for two days whilst we are on another island? If there is how much does it cost? If not does anyone have a rough idea how much a taxi from Elounda to the port would be?

Thanks

Hi there

With all due respect, I can't see much point hiring a car to leave it sat there for two days - why not take the car back to the rental company for those two days and take the regular bus to Iraklion? You can either take a bus or a taxi from Elounda to Agios Nikolaos bus station, from where hourly buses will go to the main bus station in Iraklion which is a few minutes' level walk, on the same road, from the ferry berths.

Here are the bus schedules....

www.cretetravel.com/Bus_schedules then click on "Heraklion " along the top and look for the Agios Nikolaos-Iraklion service

A taxi from Elounda to the port will cost at least €70 each way, the bus in the region of €6-7 each way.

Hi GB

Thanks for your reply, I do see your point and will definitely look into this option however it looks like the last bus back is before the ferry arrives at the port.

We just wondered what the options were at the port in case we wanted to drive to make the journey back to Elounda quicker once back from Santorini late in the evening. Do you know if there is a car park?

Thanks again for your reply

Hi again

The car park we use when visiting Iraklion is to the side of the Archaeological Museum just off Plateia Eleftherias, from where it would be a leisurely 10-15 min stroll to the ferry terminal via Bofors St and the bus station. There might be parking closer than that but I've never needed it so have never really looked out for it. The car park by the museum does have a manned kiosk there so the car park is reasonably secure during daylight hours, but I'm sure it would be fine there for two days . The daily rates are about €5 but presumably would be more for a full day's stay or more.
