Lockwood woollen mill

My ancestors all worked in a woollen mill. They lived in Waterside, Salford just south of Huddersfield (in the 19th century). Can anyone tell me whether the mill they worked in would have been Lockwood Mill? It may once have been just accross the river (Holme?) near or replacing Lockwood Spa.

If this was not the site Of Lockwood Mill, was there another wollen mill nearby?

Finally, what did a 'cloth dresser' do? Was it one of the better jobs? I ask this because the don of a cloth dresser married an heiress.

Hiya louise t,

This is a travel site, so not really the place for history questions and answers.

Perhaps try contacting the Huddersfield Local History Society:

huddersfieldhistory.wordpress.com/contacts/

or the Huddersfield & District Family History Society:

Waterside Salford is a heck of a long way from Huddersfield. Even now with a car it would take half an hour, Back then I dread to think. I doubt if they came all that way to work in Huddersfield.

So I realise. I'm a year behind. Not up to date on my 2013 yet. Still Salford hasn't got any closer to Huddersfield in that year though LOL.

No it's the part name of the Liberal Club there...no actual area there named Salford..may have associated history from way back but not now.
