Short trip out from Dereham - any recommendations please?

We are visiting a disabled relative soon and would like to take him out for the afternoon and have lunch somewhere. Can anyone make any recommendations for somewhere pretty that's not too far to drive. We don't know this area at all so not sure if it's too far to go to the Broads, maybe somewhere closer.

Not sure what you mean by "not too far to drive", but here are some areas within an hour's drive which should have places for lunch:

1) Norwich (about 30 min)

2) Cromer (seaside) (about 50 min)

3) Thetford (near Thetford forest) (about 40 min)

Hope that helps.

if he is disabled he probably doesnt get out at much as he likes, but knows the area well, ask him where he would love to go. My suggestion would be go to the coast, Sheringham has a beach and restaurants, but is quite hilly if a wheelchair is involved. , any of the villages along the coast from Hunstanton to Wells, or even Sandringham (check if the house is open, they have a visitor centre and woodland walks. Dereham is the heart of Norfolk, you can get anywhere in the county within an hour.

You would be unlucky to find a village without a pub doing lunch. For the broads I would go North of Norwich and head for Coltishall/Wroxham area.

Thank you all for your very useful help. I'll look into the suggestions made and also, as mentioned, it could be that my uncle has an idea or two as well. Thanks again.
