Durham hotel with car parking and getting to station

We want a hotel in Durham with car parking but a walkable distance or cheap taxi to train station as we want to head out to newcastle and sunderland.

Bannatyne Hotel Durham seems reasonable but we wanfed to check cost of taxis to station etc.

We do want to explore Durham too.

I quite like Farnley Tower - it's in Nevilles Cross, same side as the station, easy walking distance to both station and centre, and it has parking.

If you don't mind paying (not much) for parking, another good one is the Premier Inn City Centre. More central if you want to explore Durham, and a bit closer to the station.

Depends on the luxury you want. The Shoes on Sunderland Road up beyond Gilesgate bank has parking (shared with Sainsbury's next door). It has the added bonus of the bus to Sunderland going straight past. Takes an hour, but is £2 and avoids a very convoluted trip through/back.

Buses feed into Durham regularly and I can't think a taxi would be much.

Not luxurious but certainly functional and wasn't bad in any way when we stopped. Can be seen on Booking.com.

If you stop at Bannatynes I'd get the bus. It is the 20 and although going round the houses a bit will be quicker and cheaper than going via Newcastle.

Train from Durham to Sunderland is very awkward - you have to go to Newcastle first then on to Sunderland

The Radisson or Premier Inn walkergate are only a short walk from the station. The Radisson charges to park but it’s cheaper to use the adjacent NCP car park, or if you’re only parking overnight it’s free on the street 6pm-8am. I think the premier inn also uses the adjacent multi-storey car park at a cost.

The premier inn by the Arnison centre has free parking and it’s about £8-10 in an Uber to the station, or the 20 and 21 bus is £2.
