Is one night in Agrigento suffiecient

We are planning the following driving itinerary in Sicily from December 18-December 30:

Taormina - 2 nights

Siracusa - 2 nights

Modica-2 nights

Enna- 1 night

Agrigento -1 night

Marsala- 1 night

Palermo - 3 nights.

My question: Is this enough time to spend in Agrigento? We would like to include Enna but may need to cancel Enna in order to allow sufficient time in Agrigent. What is you opiniion?

Thanks

We only spent one night at Agrigento this year and found it worked for us - it really depends on what you want to see and at what pace.

Having arrived from Scicli the night before we set off early from our hotel to see the temples. At a leisurely pace this took us until about 1pm when we stopped for lunch. We then continued on to our next nights stop at Menfi

I have no idea how a visit over the Christmas period would fit into this scenario. It's many years since we were in Enna - 1973 in fact - so unable to comment on whether it's a worthwhile stopover.

2 nights if you want to see the temples and Scala dei Turchi. But your schedule is tight as it is. You need to figure out what's more important to you.

Welcome to Sicily jaquil2!

Sicily is seasonal, and so you would not plan beach time like the Scala dei Turchi in December.

Typically one night suffices for Agrigento, and in winter, your focus is the temples.

One night....

Christmas in Agrigento is a good option as the Valley of the Temples is open every day of the year.

Perhaps reconsider Marsala on the 26th, also a National holiday, a family time, and quiet.

One night with an early start from your previous base will work. Enjoy your tour!

I night is plenty in Agrigento. Aside form the Valley of the Temples, there is little else to keep you there. The Old Town of Agrigento has it's charm ; nice for an evening stroll and dinner. We just spent 2 weeks on Sicily. If you have time the Aeolian Islands are worth a trip. Cefalu and the Madonie National Park above Cefalu also good. Have a good trip.

It depends when you visit, and your intentions for the area.

if you only intend to see the Valley of the Temples, and a bit of the historic centre, then yes, one night would suffice.

But if you intend to explore the coast, visit wineries, see Eraclea Minoa or the Scala dei Turchi, and plan to Base in Agrigento, then you would appreciate more time.

One night was enough for us, but unfortunately we missed Scala dei Turchi. We spent at least 4-5 hours at the Valley of the Temples, my personal favorite in Sicily.

I noticed that you are missing Piazza Armerina. I am so glad that we followed Vagabonda's advice and drove there from Agrigento. Villa Romana Del Casale with it's amazingly preserved mosaics is unique and it would be a pity to miss such a treat being so close.

In winter, one night would probably suffice to see the temples and the museum. There would be less interest in coastal areas like the Scala dei Turchi.

You might see Piazza Armerina's Villa Romana del Casale from Enna.

The Villa Romana del Casale is a premier site.
