There’s a small beach at Castlepark, which is quite close into the town to the extent that it’s a long walk if so inclined. Cross the bridge on the road to Ballinspittle, turn left and take the pathway behind The Dock pub.

Howe’s Strand is a small way beyond Garrettstown. It’s a much smaller beach, but is quiet enough on even the best summer day, as most people don’t know it’s there. You will need Google Maps to navigate the last couple of kilometres.

Beyond that are Coolmaine and Harbour View. The sand on Harbour View in particular is quite coarse though.

Going eastwards from Kindale, you’ll find Rocky Bay and Roberts Cove. These will get busy with day trippers from Cork City and Rocky Bay doesn’t have a massive amount of parking. Despite the name there is a sandy beach at Rocky Bay (unlike Sandycove where there isn’t one). Be warned that Roberts Cove beach pretty much disappears at height tide. However, it has very shallow water, so it’s great for kids to go swimming.

You got there before me, blackgreen. I was going to suggest the beach behind The Dock, too (didn't know it's called Castlepark). It is a long walk from the town, though, and parking at the pub could be difficult.

Parking is limited at all the beaches I mentioned, although Robert’s Cove and Harbour View have reasonable parking for average summer days, but probably are struggling at the moment.

The Dock beach at Castlepark is a favourite but can get crowded so you need an early start. James Fort, dating from 1603 is alongside and is a great place to get away from it all. Sandycove is another favourite but is small but does have a fine cliff path walk. Call yo our excellent Tourist Office for more ingormation.

If you want to get away from the crowds and do a nice day trip head out to Courtmacsherry. You can visit the Abbey in Timoleague on the way. Courtmac is a nice little town and Broad strand is a 5 minute drive from it. It doesn't have the huge crowds Garretstown has. Divert via Kilbrittain on the way back and visit the whale bones !!!
