Where to stay in Cairns?

Hi guys,

I'm a 30yr old man with a couple of days to spare on Dec 13th before I head back to sunny London, can anyone recommend a decent hostel? I'm looking for something clean, but sociable as I'm travelling alone, plus are all the hostels located in a similar area? Can I just rock up and get a bed for a couple of nights or should I pre book?

I'm looking at spending a day on a boat trip, with a bit of snorkelling. Again, are there plenty of offers around or should I book in advance?

Apology, missed this before so f you come back..

No the hostels are not all in the same area. Some are far from city centre and some of those right in town noisy with party people.

I would look at Northern Greenhouse

Dreamtime Travellers Rest (a few minutes walk from town)

Bellview - old type motel in good location.

You should get a trip ok but make sure you know what typeof trip you want. usually recommend an outer reef trip to see the best stuff.

I stayed at the Castaways, it's a quiet but if you want to also a sociable place. It is a 20 min stroll to the city.

I loved the place, it was very clean and tidy and exactly what I was looking for. The bathrooms where just recently renovated as well as the rooms.

Great value for the money!
