Feedback on Melbourne - GOR itinerary

My plan as follows

18-19 Dec: Melbourne city

20 Dec - GOR, overnight at Apollo Bay

21 Dec - GOR, overnight at Port Campbell

22 Dec - GOR, overnight at Port Campbell (12 Apostles, Port Fairy, Warrnambool)

23 Dec - PC to Ballarat - overnight at Ballarat

24 Dec - Melbourne

25 Dec - Melbourne

Not sure of 23-25 Dec. From PC shud i head to Ballarat and stay overnight or head back to Melbourne and do a day-trip to Mornington peninsula on 24th.

25th definitely would like to be in Melbourne city, catchig MCG boxing day game on 26th.

Given a choice between Ballarat and Mornington Peninsula, what is recommended.

Any other recommendation for 23-25?

Your itinerary looks really good.

With you just having just done the GOR, I would say Ballarat. 1) it's different to what you've just done (MP is coast as well), 2) it makes more sense geographically, and 3) Sovereign Hill is excellent and well worth a full day.

Also have a look at Lamplight Tours at Sovereign Hill - much better than the old sound and light show imo. http://www.sovereignhill.com.au

With your dates (our Christmas), have you booked them - I would think it could be very hard to get places to stay ??

I would advise booking tickets in advance if you want to attend the Test match on the 26th.

Another question - is the MCG walking distance from hotels in the CBD area?

Yes it is and a tram goes right by it as well. Can be anything from 10 mins to 30 mins walk depending where you’re staying.

All the best.

Your itinerary looks good. You might not need two nights at Port Campbell to be honest. It depends on whether you're travelling with children and how slow you are taking things. You could fill a day with everything between Apollo Bay and the Apostles, so then you'd need the follow day to see the Apostles and other attractions around there.

But if you skip much of the stuff between, then you'll probably have little to see the following day. Not a bad idea to continue on to Warrnambool or Port Fairy as you suggest, but then plan to stay the night there rather than doubling back to Port Campbell.

Definitely visit Ballarat over the Mornington Peninsula.

You can walk or take a tram from the CBD to the MCG.
