Staying at RIU Guanacaste Excursions with children?

We have booked 2 weeks at RIU Guanacaste in August with Thomson for 4 of us including our kids aged 10 and 11.

Wondering what trips to do with that aged children?

Daughter is a bit afraid of heights but says she wants to do Tarzan swing in Monteverde! If you go on hanging bridges tour and she gets scared is there any option not to walk bridges. They love animals, volcanoes, white water rafting, zipping, horse riding etc. I did wonder with some activities like tubing do they allow kids to do this, some sites say 12 for different trips. Any help appreciated.

Sounds like you having a good time. It's a shame they have changed the eco park, it was the highlight of our day at arenal. We saw some fantastic animals there. Hope you continue to enjoy your holiday!

Thanks very much. The eco park was one of the main reason I wanted the Arenal trip, strange they've taken it off for a river trip. Can't really establish from TUI what you can see on this river trip either, asked about wildlife said maybe, maybe not.

Nexus said their trip goes to Arenal rainforest for 1 hour, not sure if that's the eco park, but he said Blue River trip was better as closer and similar though he was saying volcano has been active a lot recently and we can see it active, hoping its not too active! He was trying to persuade us to do Nicaragua saying you can see buildings from 1594, think he's used to selling to US tourists, we used to live in a C16th cottage. That ones too far for us.

In the end we went to Buena Vista with Thomson great trip but 48 people in group, horse riding, water slide, hot springs and ziplining, saw monkeys and a toucan. Is cheaper via GekoTico on the beach discovered later.

Second trip was Blue River with Nexus, small group of 9 lovely and beautiful gardens and hot springs and butterflies. Saw a rubber tree. Hot springs and small water slide.

Today cancelled Monteverde and went on a trip with GeckoTico from the beach. Only the 4 of us, beautiful AC vehicle with reclining seats, guide and driver. Went to waterfall to swim beautiful, then walked in rainforest and saw got to see and hold hedgehog, frogs and a baby sloth then CR lunch with fresh juices and a coffee visit. Magical day and best trip so far.

Friday off to Arenal with Thomson, wishing now we had booked that with GeckoTico as so much nicer to be in a small group. May book a further tour on Monday.

A raccoon keeps coming to eat with us at the steakhouse here. It's quite a magical place though hotel itself is too lively but good food and good value.

Arsenal trip with Thomson boat ride was across lake and saw very little, a few birds. Lunch was good, stopped at volcano to view and lucky could see all of it, then at Tabacon hot springs. Long day 4 hours there, 3 hours back. Around 30 people. Pleasant day but shame they've swapped the eco park for a boat ride.

Last day went to Diamante and kids had amazing time on zip line and eco park was nice.

Saw lots of animals at hotel, pelican, coati, 5 raccoons, gecko and 2 cats. Held a sloth on a trip and saw monkeys and toucan at Buena Vista. Would definitely recommend Costa Rica and would recommend booking trips there with GeckoTico Tours rather than Thompson for smaller groups, nicer bus and more insight into CR. Riu was fine for the price but too lively for us, drunk people took over the pool. Rest was lovely though.
