Cloud Forest & Panic Attacks! Help!

Planning to go to Rui Palace in June and looking at the cloud forest trip. One post said it's a five hour bus ride. I am afraid of mountain roads and wonder if anyone was ever a little panicked on the bus to the cloud forest?

If you're saying you get panic attacks then it's really not worth it, is it?

For yourself, the staff and other passengers.

And yes its a very long drive too, really not worth it as a day trip IMO.

There are other great tours including Palo Verde, RIncon de la VIeja much closer and no scary roads.

Wishing you a great trip!

Monteverde is 4 hours from the Riu palace. As for mountain roads, you do climb in altitude (monteverde is around 1600 meters above sea level) but I don't recall the roads being horrendous in terms of 'mountain' roads. Sure in some places there are drop offs to the side but I've certainly seen worse in a few places. It's also worth noting that the roads are very bumpy and so vehicles can't go too fast. Not sure this would be a good or a bad thing for you. The 'mountain' roads make up about 90 minutes of the 4 hour journey.

As the previous poster said, if your going to get so anxious about it, it's probably not worth it. I was a bit underwhelmed with monteverde if I'm honest. Personally I much preferred Arenal. There are no mountain roads at arenal so that may be an alternative for you.
