Also take a look at the state parks in RI. A number of them have camping with sites on lakes and ocean. See:
Click on "State Parks", and you'll see that some of them are labeled with "Camping" for the ones with that service.
Our family has been camping for years at Fisherman's Memorial State Park in Narragansett, RI. However, several words of warning must be given. The campground is not on a lake, but it is a five minute or less drive to the ocean. For the summer months reservations are necessary way, way in advance. The park begins taking mail in reservations on January 14 each year, and if you don't get your reservation in then you probably won't get a site. Some of the sites are small (especially in the tent area) and many have little shade. The bathrooms are very bare bones and the showers are coin operated.
All that being said, the campground's appeal is that it is so close to the ocean. You can hear the whistles of the fishing boats coming into port in Galillee. You can feel and smell the salty sea air. It's right around the corner from the Block Island Ferry. It's especially nice to go to the beach in the evening when most people have left and fly kites, throw a frisbee, or watch the setting sun. The roads are paved, there's a playground, tennis courts, and seasonal nature lectures. Visitors from out of state seem to spend their days at the beach or go out on chartered fishing excursions.
We especially like going there in the very early fall when we get an unusually warm weekend. It's so peaceful!
