Suggestions For Our Trip

We will be taking the family to TX this summer, boys 10-14. We will be stopping in Houston, San Antonio, and end in Corpus Christi. So far we were thinking: Space Cnt., Sea World, Alamo, Riverwalk, San Jose Mission, and the Texas Aquarium....any other suggestions welcome. Also looking for a fantastic, mello beach to hang out at. Thanks!!

Well the beaches in the Corpus/Port Aransas area are not fantastic. They are mello and fun for just hanging out. The water will not be crystal clear and there may be seaweed (annoying but not dangerous.) Beaches are nicer on South Padre Island but its another three hours south.

A lot of your choices are going to be dictated by your personal tastes and interests. Some thoughts: Schliterbahn in New Braunfels; Natural Bridge Caverns; Toobing the Guadalupe or Comal River; Horseback ridding at a dude ranch; Zip Line through the trees.

Browse through or search the specific forums. Use key words that intrest you.

We went to Pesacola Beach last summer and stayed on the Gulf. The entire family loved it. Is it true that the beaches of Corpus Christi are not on the Gulf? What about N. Padre Island. I am navigating Trip Advisor. It, and responses like your own make it a wonderful resource for trip planning. Thanks!

The Fort Worth Stockyards and the U.S. Bureau of Engraving are really awesome "Texas" things to do. At the Bureau of Engraving you can see them printing money and it is totally free! FT. Worth is one of only two places in the U.S. that prints money. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Here is a TA Article I wrote describing the beaches in the area:

tripadvisor.com/Travel-g60927-c119371/Corpus…

The city of Corpus Christi sits on Corpus Christi Bay and is protected by barrier islands, Mustang and Padre. The Gulf beaches are on the islands. North Padre Island is actually part of the city of Corpus Christi but a 25 minute drive from the city center.

If you enjoy history the main attraction in the city is the USS Lexington Museum. The old WWII aircraft carrier is a lot of fun as well as historical with many things to see and do. It is in the bay just next to the Aquarium.

If you want to stay on the Gulf beach my advice is to look into properties in and around Port Aransas which is about a 30 minute drive from downtown Corpus Christi.

Well, they are not beaches by a long shot, but there are some nice dude ranches not far from San Antonio that you and the kids might enjoy. If that sounds interesting, go to www.duderanches.com and click on the Texas section to get some ideas. Many require that you spend at least one night, but some have day programs available.

After an evening and morning of research I have come to the conclusion, and PLEASE correct me if I am wrong, that Rockport Beach would be a good place to hang out for the day and enjoy the water, sun, and sand with the family. Appreciate all of the suggestions and welcome any more.

The beach at Rockport should fit your needs and be relatively free of the college crowds.

Well, they are not beaches by a long shot

---------------------

Of course they are, not sure what your definition of a beach might be... They may lack the heavy surf but they are definitely beaches. In fact, they are well maintained by the city and quite nice for families, with restaurants and local attractions within walking distance.
